International Education Week is a joint initiative of the Department of Education and the Department of State, highlighting the important benefits of international education and international exchanges in the U.S. and around the World. Each year, the International Education Week events promote classroom activities and materials focused on international subjects and our international counterparts.
This year, the theme for International Education Week is International Education: Fostering Global Citizenship and Respect. To kick-off this year's celebration, the Department will host a forum at the Library of Congress, to discuss the need for international education skills and foreign language learning. The Forum on Global-Ready Students and Citizens will feature a panel of distinguished educators, business community leaders, and senior officials from state and federal government. Other Department events will include an exhibition of artwork by students in Mongolia, a discussion about math and science education in China, Japan, Korea and the U.S. by a panel of international experts, students working with experts on the feasibility of growing plants in space, and an international bilingual videoconference featuring students in the U.S. learning Japanese speaking with students in Tokyo and Naha, Japan.
