Program Description The National Institute for Literacy provides national leadership regarding literacy; and to serve as a national resource for adult education and literacy programs through dissemination. The Institute provides project grants in the form of Contacts and fellowships.
Eligible Grantees Public and private nonprofit institutions may apply.
Eligible Beneficiaries State literacy resource centers, individuals, universities, and education organizations will benefit.

Eligible Activities Eligible activity under this funding includes Contacts and fellowships to explore literacy. Examples of past funded project include: 1) a 3 to 5-year effort on behalf of adults with learning disabilities and 2) capacity-building grants to 14 States to design and implement interagency systems for either staff development or outcome-based performance management .
