SAMPLE COLD LETTERMr. Joe Green Dear Mr. Green: I am writing to share a wonderful opportunity for the University of Pennsylvania. Our organization, "Computers for All", is presently developing a program which will create small computer learning centers in public health clinics throughout the city of Philadelphia. The computer learning centers will be staffed by volunteers and open during the regular hours of the clinics. The computer learning centers will offer patients the opportunity to develop stronger computer skills while waiting for health services. Parents will be able to have children explore the Internet in a controlled environment while they see the doctor in privacy. Children will have the opportunity to strengthen reading and math skills using a variety of computer programs. It has recently come to our attention that the University of Pennsylvania is replacing a large number of the computers on campus through our board member, Jane Doe, a professor in the School of Social Work. I am wondering if the University would be willing to donate the replaced computer equipment to "Computers for All." "Computers for All" is a tax-exempt non-profit organization that has been working in the Philadelphia community for ten years. We have assisted schools and libraries expand their technology resources. Our volunteers provide computer technical assistance, computer training and grant writing services to a variety of community members to expand the technical skills of the city. We were recently written up in the Philadelphia Inquirer as one of the few community groups that not only serves but also is composed of volunteers who illustrate the diversity of the "City of Brotherly Love." I am very interested in speaking with you about this unique opportunity to have the University's wealth become a part of the greater Philadelphia community's resources. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. If I have not heard from you, I will contact you in two weeks. Thank you,
Jane Smith |
