The Last 10 Meters Problem

As much as I believe in Bob Tinker's view of networking in education, and have been trying to make it happen (see also Kathleen Heide's note), it is clear to me that the needs of the education community are sufficiently different from those of the "big" markets that, without concerted action by the community, these dreams will not be realized as commercially available products.

Steps that could be taken are

*carefully analyze the needs a good starting point is the need to connect a roomful of students across the 10 meters to the network "spigot" on the wall *agree on a set of requirements it is important that the requirements cover rural and urban, local and global use present request-for-quotes en masse (nationally) a Presidentially-sponsored, or Dept. of Ed. funneled RFQ could have a significant impact on the situation.

*The usual disclaimers apply*
