Altogether, this set of papers is comprehensive and complementary. Suggestions of Topics for Future Symposia (part 1 of 2) 1. Hybrid Technologies: Ala Tinker's PDA telecommunications may be facilitated by cable, telcos, sw leaders, minimalist pc's,networkers, etc. Let's bring these industrial giants (who are betting their store) into our domain. At the very least, it will accelerate the efforts of those who are already donating equipment and reduced pricing services in impoverished communities. 2. Model-building: I was struck at the most recent WWW conference how pervasively participants vie for quality--what's cool, what's hot, what's best. That posture may seem sophomoric but we can learn from Webniks---what's cchallenging? The concepts and metaphors in these papers are intriguing: How can these one-up notions, linking new technologies and new learning affordances, be integrated? What new models can we construct to visualize this challenge? (continued in part 2)
