The Presidents goal of having every classroom connected to the Information Superhighway is probably within reach. But, to be used to its utmost potential, the networked computer should first be on the teachers desk. There were and still are many classrooms where computers don't do much more than the old fashioned purple ditto sheets did - they keep kids busy. However, if teachers are provided with the computers first, and with training for those with a fear of technology, the difference is significant. All the positive aspects of networking then get passed on, in one way or another, to the classroom. All the white paper articles go into much greater depth on all the potential networking has in education. But the key is the teacher - they need to feel comfortable climbing on board the technology bandwagon because if they don't, they really can't provide the guidance and motivation that students need.
