Technology is a tool, and in the Humanities should not be promoted to the level of course content. However, it is a useful tool, one that enables instructors to implement an expanded range of pedagogies in the classroom. Technology also enables students to forge many paths through the course material, something crucial for educational competence in the Humanities. I see the instructor's role changing from "Sage on the Stage" (and grading machine) to mentor/coach within a virtual learning community. I think we will start to see new strategies and methods of both teaching and learning emerge from our new technologies. This is all to the good--some of us are still using 19th C. methods and the 21st Century is almost here.
