It's class management, stupid!

The well known notice on the wall of Bill Clinton's campaign headquarters "It's the economy, stupid!" reminds me of the need to pinch ourselves regularly and say "Its class management." In Australia we have been serious about progressive education for twenty years and have achieved some success in freeing up classrooms. The use of networked information will require teachers to move away from the talk and text book modes of teaching. Being able to manage a class with children doing different tasks is a, if not the, central issue in the use of the new technologies.
