BRIAN McPARTLIN NAMED REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE
FOR U.S. EDUCATION SECRETARY IN MIDWEST

Brian J. McPartlin, former senior advisor to the regional administrator of the General Services Administration in Chicago, has been appointed U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley's regional representative in Chicago.

In his new role, McPartlin will be a spokesman and envoy for Riley in the U.S. Department of Education's Region V, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Before joining GSA in 1996, McPartlin served in the White House as associate director of presidential advance for the president, vice president and first lady. He was the lead advance staff member of the administration's transition team in 1992.

McPartlin was a deputy assessor in the office of the Cook County Assessor before his White House appointment. For eight years, he was personal assistant to Illinois Attorney General Neil F. Hartigan, following two years in the office of the Illinois secretary of state.

Active in local school affairs, McPartlin is chairman of the District 57 Education Foundation, which supports the school district of the Village of Mount Prospect, Ill. The nonprofit organization generates and allocates resources for the schools through partnerships with teachers, parents, students and the business community. A native of Chicago, McPartlin received his bachelor of science degree in political science from DePaul University. He, his wife Amy and their three children live in the Village of Mt. Prospect.

He replaces Stephanie J. Jones, who recently left the department to join the staff of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, D-Ohio.
