STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
To highlight this year's State of the Union Address, the White House is featuring a State of the Union web site which will provide extensive information about the address. In addition, the White House is working with television networks to provide an interactive broadcast of the State of the Union address whereby viewers of the speech will find internet links to information about proposals mentioned by the President during the speech. These links will be highlighted on the closed caption feature of several network broadcasts.
Visitors to the State of the Union web site will find several informative and useful links, such as:
- Clinton-Gore Administration Accomplishments: Links to specific ideas and accomplishments raised in the speech.
- State of the Union Background Materials: This section will link to policy announcements made prior to, and during the speech.
- History of the State of the Union: This section provides a State of the Union history, milestones, and frequently asked questions.
- Send Your Ideas to the President: This is an area where visitors are invited share ideas and suggestions for moving the nation forward.
- Children's Page: This section includes a history of the State of the Union just for kids, a State of the Union quiz that the children take online, a form to email the President, and a photo gallery from last year's State of the Union Address.
- Audio/Video Coverage: The night of the speech, the White House web site will offer a link to watch live video and audio feeds of the President's Address. Following the speech, the web site will have full video and audio files, as well as video excerpt files.
- Guests in the First Lady's Box: At 9pm on Thursday, the web site will feature a page that highlights the guests in the First Lady's Gallery Box.
- The Text of the Address: The text of the Address will be posted upon the conclusion of the speech with hyperlinks to initiatives and proposals discussed in the speech.
