Resource Sharing and
Cooperation Division

The Resource Sharing and Cooperation Division (RSCD) is responsible for the development and maintenance of a national network of education and education-related technologies. In this capacity, RSCD:

• Promotes greater cooperation and resource sharing among education and library professionals, policy makers, the public, and other providers and repositories of education information in the United States.
• Applies information science, computing, and telecommunications technologies for the enhancement of education information dissemination.
• Develops new information resources, such as databases, network services, user-friendly interfaces, and knowledge syntheses. Provides leadership in the effective use of technology in all aspects of NLE planning and operation.

Major RSCD activities include:

• The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC), a distributed national information system designed to provide users with ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature.
• INet, the U.S. Department of Education's public access Internet site.
