The U.S. Board on Books for Young People is the U.S. section of the International Board on Books for Young People. Its major purpose is to provide high quality reading materials for young people throughout the world and to facilitate the exchange of information internationally on aspects of books and reading encouragement.
United Way of America is a national service organization that aims to "support and serve local United Ways to help increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another." Each year some 2,100 local United Ways raise more than $3.4 billion, which provide technical, planning, management, and organizational support to 44,000 nonprofit agencies throughout the United States. Since 1989, United Way of America has been working to create and sustain a national policy that makes literacy a national priority; to strengthen the capacity and resources of America's literacy and education systems; and to support, encourage, and expand a collaborative approach to achieving literacy for all Americans by the year 2010.
