For almost 50 years the Jewish Book Council, an independent organization, has served as the voice of Jewish literature in the United States. It is a clearinghouse for authors, publishers, and readers seeking information about Jewish literature. The council works to stimulate the writing, publishing, and reading of Jewish-content books. It sponsors the National Jewish Book Awards, presented annually to the authors of the best works in 14 categories. Its also sponsors Jewish Book Month. The Jewish Book Council publishes the Jewish Book Annual and Jewish Book World. It also works closely with libraries to help them maintain high-quality Judaic collections.
